Running a google search found others with the exact problem that was supposedly solved by disabling IPV6 on the WiFi adapter on the laptop. On connecting back to the initial router, my laptop froze yet again. I connected that up and experienced no freezing for 6 days. Luckily, I had powerline adapters and a nano router lying about.

The HP support tech said he was aware of certain routers causing printers to freeze so I should try connecting to another. On reconnecting back to my router, my laptop froze within the hour.

No freezing occurred whilst in this state for about a week. I then decided to disable the WiFi and connect through my smartphone. Having the Task Manager open at all times, I noticed that the data through the WiFi went to zero for about 3 seconds before the freeze occurred.
